Homeschooling Away…

So it’s already the second week of August and September is fast approaching.  We’ve been doing homeschool everyday since July 3rd, but I’ve been adding more subjects to our list now that we are edging towards fall.  :/

Every year it’s like this.  We start in the beginning of July so that we can have a cushion for the rest of the year in case of sick days or a needed extended Thanksgiving or Christmas vacation.  And even though we start in July and have Plenty of days in already I begin to feel the September doubts.  😦 Continue reading

A Fish Tale…

Hello everybody! Long time, no see. 🙂

Ok, I said before on here somewhere that I homeschool my Randomkid.
Randomkid Senior graduated last year and my youngest Randomkid started his highschool years this year. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

Anyhoo, we are covering a lot of the basic courses that most freshman cover like Biology. We chose a Bio book that looked interesting and away the kid went on his little way. I figured we’d do some dissections…online and in real life and voila, instant credit with labs. A snap, right?
Wrong.

Hello October…Wait, what?

Somehow the new month is upon us like a leopard pouncing from an innocent looking tree limb.

School has handed me a plate of boy-howdy-is-this-a-lot-of-work this year.

I am still attempting to work on my books and meet my January deadline for finishing my Bicusped Molar book, but life is coming at me a bit fast.  :/

I’ve bookended our school week with Homeschool group-type activities on every Monday and Friday.  Leaving only Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to finish regular school work.

Thursday is still my personal writing day, but when I add field trips, dental/ortho appts, doctor appts, social activities, or pop-up Homeschool days out, it Really cuts into our 3 days to get things done.

I’m Extremely glad that my Randomkid Youngest isn’t working outside of the home as of yet or I would Really be pulling my hair out. Ack!

So, in order to sneak in writing and/or art I try to work it into the actual homeschool schedule.  If we are doing art I pick an activity that I can practice something for my illustrations and hopefully the Randomkid learns a new art form or new art technique.

And the Randomkid is working on a few manuscripts as well, so working in writing is not a problem.

Really it all gets back to that elusive shadowed specter named time.  I just never seem to have enough of it.  😦

I just finished watching a three part series on FB with tips on how to set aside time for writing.

The speaker challenged writers to map out what your day looks like from morning to evening for an entire week…three weeks is preferred, but reality is a week will be all I get done.

The idea is that after writing down your activities for a week or so you can see just where you might have free time and prioritize what you Really need to work on during that time.

I know right now that I need to reprioritize my screen time from research/recreational watching to actual Focused writing time. :/

I am starting off the month with my no FB, Pinterest, Netflix, Youtube time until after 7pm, unless I am in motion on some form of exercise machine.  ;)-

That really seemed to work well for me during the month of September and helped me to get moving more often.

Because the reward for movement was screen time.  Rofls

So, maybe after I get through this week I will be able to discover my hidden free time and use it for good instead of evil.  Ha!  XD

P.S.-  Happy October!  May your leaves all fall exactly where you would like them to and may they stay in the piles where they are placed.  ;)-

Happy Leaf Jumping!

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year…

No, it’s not what you’re thinking.

It’s not Christmas yet, although most retail stores will have us thinking it is soon enough. :/

For those of us in the homeschool business it’s the time when we are getting serious about school.

Sure some of us start school in July, but that’s usually easy going if we get to it today, great kinda days.

But now, now is the time for Doin’ School.  Getttin’ er done everyday without fail.

Whoo!!! Smell that?  That’s the smell of pencil lead in the morning, overheating laptops at noon, and sweaty phys ed playin’ kiddos in the afternoon.

Come on year!  I’m ready for ya.

Four more years!  Four more years!

Well, I’m off to teach a cooking class…How to avoid grease splatter and other helpful tips.

TTFN,

The Bluemoon Thinker 🙂

P.S.- It’s Schooltime Baby!! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!  Can I get a fistpound? ;)-

Anyone out there in Internet Land start school yet?  Public, private, cyber, homeschool, or any I’m missing?  Leave a comment or 2 in the box below. 🙂

Happy Schoolsville man. 😀

P.S.S.-

I thought this post needed some inspirational music so…

School, School, and More School…

Well, today Flew by!

The Randomkid Oldest met for the final Literary Discussion Group of the year and his school career. 🙂

They read Scarlet Pimpernel. 😀

We watched the movie…the 1930’s edition..not a lot of chests flashing across the screen…needed a G version. Lol

The kiddos chowed down on popcorn and generally had a great time mocking the movie. 😀

They all Loved the book and shared their final projects of the year.

We had a song…Extremely catchy

An artists rendition of Percy…Wonderfully drawn

A comic of a chase scene involving the Pimpernel…Hysterical and creative

And an alternate ending…well, a walk through the imagination of a writer attempting to write an alternate ending…LOLS!…Inventive and entertaining at the same time.

We have a Very Creative and Awesome Group of kiddos and they will all be missed. :/

Another year of fun stuff down the tube…now back to life.

Well, for me…book edits…Yup, still workin’ on em. 😀

TTFN,

The Bluemoon Thinker 🙂

P.S.-

I’m on a Twenty One Pilots Binge and I was gettin’ all misty eyed as I listened to this and typed about the end of this wonderful class and thinkin’ about two of them graduating in a month. :’)

Enjoy!

The School Year is Coming to a Close…

Well, today we had our last homeschool meeting for our small group, Out of the Box, today.

Well, actually we have one more get together… an end of the year celebration at the park in May. 😀

Today we tried watercolor with the kiddos.  It was pretty cool seeing everyone’s different results.  We are studying the Titanic, so the kiddos painted icebergs.  Mine came out like a hippie psychedelic acid trippy type iceberg. Lol  Everyone else’s came out normal. 😀

We also did some experiments with mini icebergs…well actually various sizes of ice cubes.  🙂

I filled a container with plain water and another one with salt water.  Then we floated the ice in both containers and wrote down observations.  It was very wet. And the kiddos had a hard time keeping their fingers out of the Bowls.  Lol

Now I get to concentrate on finishing the rest of My homeschool year. Yay!…Not Really.  🙂

Well, I’m off to work on tomorrows school schedule.  Yay me…again. Lols 😀

Adventures in Homeschooling…

I have been randomly posting……Yes, yes I have.  Bwahahahaha! …okay, sorry wipin’ a tear on that one…randomly posting….Hahahahaha!  Whew!  :’D

Okay, now then…ahem.  I have been randomly posting…giggle…about homeschooling panicking….sorta like picnicking, but Not. 😉

Well, today I was up to my eyeballs in year end fun.

It was a whirlwind day of chuckling at my Randomkid oldest as he struggles through the process of putting a portfolio together for the first time.  Bwahahahaha!!  Again.  :’D

So much funny, so little time. Lol

I spent the better part of the day leaping back and forth and to and fro…I’m gettin’ kinda seasick… between the Random kiddos schoolie type stuff and schoolie type phone calls all day.

BUT, it was all worth it!  The Randomkid oldest’s portfolio is 99% complete!  Whoo-hoo!! 😀

It just needs a few pics thrown in for good measure aaaand I still have to print out All the crazy documents he needs to graduate.  Bleh!  :/  I do not like dumb documents, Sam I am.  I do not like them in a box, with a fox, I do not like them Sam I am. 😉

Aaaand the Randomkid youngest is about 2 books from being finished as well.  So tomorrow we will be working on Portfolio Deux.

I think I may have all the school type stuff finished before the end of April!  Record breaking Shockers!!

Now I just have to get the rest of my life under control.  Lols 😉

TTFN,

The Bluemoon Thinker  🙂

P.S.-  Anyone else out there in internet land have end of the year deadlines that are breathin’ down their necks giving them ring around the collar?  If you want to rant, leave a line or 4 in the box below.

Happy End of the Year-ness!! 😀

P.S.S.- For some reason this didn’t post yesterday, so I’m posting it as if it did….Random Cheating Under a Blue Moon. 😉

Adventures in WordPress Scheduling…fodder for another post. 😀

Where did the rest of the year go…

Ack! It’s the end of the school year! 😮

I know that the end of the school year shouldn’t come leaping up at me every year with a giant jump-scare SURPRISE!

Never the less, it always does… sorta like Christmas and Taxes…Lol  😉

So right now we are tying up loose ends… like, “Okay, we did English-check, Science-check, Math-ish..it’s been a crappy year in the math department… Fire & Safety-check, Health? What health? Ohhh crud.”

Yeah, it kinda goes something like that. 🙂 Lols

So anyhoo, here we go again…another year, another portfolio to get together. 😀

Soon, it will be Evalution time. 🙂

Oh look, my Randomkids are randomly wandering around…so I guess I better go figure out what has them soooo lost and get them back on track.  ;D

TTFN,
The Bluemoon Thinker 🙂

P.S.- Have a hopefully snow-less weekend and an awesome type kinda day. 😀

Happy Homeschoolin’!  If ya do that is. 😉

Too Many Numbers & Not Enough Letters…

We woke up to snow this morning and Freezing temperatures. I love snow, but I am Extremely ready for sunny weather. 😀

I spent the day trying to finish the transcripts for my Random Oldest kiddo who is graduating this year. Thank goodness my awesome sauce friend filled me in that there is an App for that. Yes!!
Even with the App, my brain still feels like mush. 😮

Soooo many numbers. Lols
I tend to see my numbers all mixed up and don’t realize that they are actually mixed up…I’ve had arguments with my hubby about numbers in my checkbook…Oy, don’t get me started. Lols 😮 😮

So, after checking and double checking that I entered all the tiny numbers in correctly and filled everything out. I decided to take a break. 😀
I think I’ll forget numbers for awhile and focus on letters for the rest of the day…as in typing them. 😀

I am on the last chapter of another children’s book that I’m working on, but I’m kinda stuck on how to end it. :/
Aaaand one of my friends gave me a few ideas for picture books that I’m working on as well. Sooo many ideas, so little time. Rofl 😀

I actually started different notebooks for all the ideas that fly into my head during the day.

I have a Book Ideas notebook…although I’m thinking of breaking that down into two notebooks.. One for Young Adult and Adult Fiction and one for Children’s Picture and Chapter Books.

A Poem Starts notebook…for all those one or 5 lines that come to you and then just stall, waiting to be added to on another day.

And a Doodle Book…where I draw ideas that come to me that either go with my other story and poem ideas or draw things that I can base stories and poems off of. 😀

I think about all of the creative ideas that have come to me over the years and never wrote down….so many wasted opportunities.
That’s why I decided to keep notebooks…even if they become full and I never do anything with them, maybe some day one of my Random kiddos will open one of my notebooks and pick up where I left off. 😀

Well, I’m off to be Creative.

TTFN,
The Bluemoon Thinker 🙂

P.S.- Do any of you out there in Blogalog land keep idea notebooks? Or am I the only hoarder of ideas in the land. Lol
Happy Notebookin’ 😀
